Transforming two flood-damaged MOD properties into habitable new homes.
Transforming two flood-damaged MOD properties into habitable new homes.
Situated just north of Winchester, Worthy Down is an MOD training and administration facility, used by several factions of the British Army – many of whom live on site. Two properties on base had been damaged by flooding and the MOD were seeking a trusted contractor who could execute a complete refit and refurbishment of these two homes. We had just 12-weeks in which to deliver the two refurbished houses, both of which had to be uniform in their finish, using designated fixtures and fittings from an approved list. A full strip-out of each was needed and – as no skips were permitted on site – all waste had to be removed by a clearance lorry via the properties’ back gardens. Asbestos, including a chimney flue and wall tiles, also had to be removed.
The houses were stripped right back and everything from new electrics and plumbing to new door frames were fitted. We built new studwork cupboards for storage and installed a new plasterboard ceiling. The lofts were insulated with 3mm insulation, and all internal walls were freshly plastered and painted, which provided an additional challenge in the time frame given temperatures at the time were below freezing! Finally, when the shell was complete, we installed new bathrooms, kitchens, WCs, and utilities. Finishing touches like skirtings, carpets, blinds, and curtains were the final addition. Now, thanks to our team, these two properties are once again providing safe and warm homes for two families living on base at Worthy Down, while offering all of the modern conveniences that help to make everyday life easy, effortless, and enjoyable.
